Who are we…

  • Mission...

At Kærlighet, we seek to establish a reputation for offering amazing sourdough-based baked goods and the best coffee and tea drinks in the Agder region.

Our café also offers a wide selection of books in English and Norwegian and we specialize in literature from the wisdom traditions. We hold a wide selection of books that can’t be found in any other bookstore in the region.

We aspire to fulfill essential community needs and promote tourism in Farsund. Kjærlighet is a haven for visitors who have come to the Lister region to experience nature and find an unexpected «treasure» in our beautiful small town by the sea.

  • Vision...

Like our name, the Norwegian word for “Love” (pronounced: ‘Sha-lee-het’), we envision to create a bookstore and café with a warm inviting atmosphere that holds true to the original feel of the home (built in 1902).

We think of our café as a place where the vertical and the horizontal meet - a place for a warm cup of coffee or cool cup of bubble tea to quench the thirst, a fresh home-baked treat to sustain the body, and a good book to stimulate the mind.

Kjaerlighet seeks to feed the hearts of Farsund through fostering community. In addition to the book-café, we hope to create in the future a rose garden in the courtyard that will be open to the community. A small oasis with a fountain, for silence and reflection. When the iron gate is open, the rose garden is open to everyone - with or without a cafe purchase.

  • Values...

Kjærlighet aims to embody values that foster inclusivity and community spirit in Farsund. We are dedicated to creating a welcoming atmosphere where everyone feels at home, transcending boundaries of age, gender, culture and belief.

As a neighborhood café, our space is designed to be a sanctuary for both residents and visitors, encouraging connection and conversation in harmony with the stunning coastal surroundings.

By embracing the unique beauty of Farsund, Kjærlighet aspires to be a beacon, or "lighthouse," for all those seeking companionship and comfort, celebrating the rich tapestry of lives that come together in our café.

Meet the Team

We are a Norwegian/American couple making a home in Farsund with our children. We shared a dream of creating a multicultural meeting place where anyone can meet for a cup of coffee, find a great book or an unexpected conversation.
